Can't install: msg "I could not find a Red Hat Linux CDROM"

I am having a lot of trouble getting 7.1 Red Hat to install. The system has a workstation install of 6.1. I can't boot from the CD so I use a boot floppy, get the install running using graphical mode and everything is fine until I have to choose between the local CDROM or the HD as the source of the installlation files. I choose the cd and get the message "I could not find a Red Hat Linux CDROM...." and I can go no further.

I have burned two CDs and I am currently using the CD from a Linux book I bought. All of the CDs appear to be the same under Win ME. I have tried to copy the files I need to the HD but it still can't find them and I am not sure I am copying all I need.

I have seen no other advice on this problem anywhere beyond burn another CD. It seems very unlikely this is my problem as I am using a CD distributed with a book.

My CD appears to bo hdb during boot up but it flies by and I can't really read it.

well, it sounds like a crazy problem but it seems like its just not detecting what it needs off the cd-rom....

me personally never trust them out of books or magazines, all i hear is they never work right.

you might want to maybe download and burn your own iso if you have a fast connection or get a copy of a retail version.

I have tried the download route. When I burn the iso I get to 99% and I get an error. Everything seems to be there but it is not working from these disks. I am leaning towards the retail route so I can bug the folks at Red Hat if things don't work out.

The shrink wrapped Red Hat is installing as I type. It is running perfectly. It looks like you can't always count on burned isos or non Red Hat production disks.

trickykid has one more reason not to trust the ones from books or magazines.

that is another story from beyond of books giving away linux discs or iso's just giving nothing but trouble.
glad to know its installing now... hopefully everything else goes smoothly for you.
