Can't get ALSA to work

Hello

I tried to uninstall ALSA and install OSS4. But it seems that ALSA was not the issue. Anyway:

I don't know how to reinstall alsa. I'm using Debian Squeeze(stable).

Tried this:

apt-get install alsa-base alsa-source

dpkg-reconfigure linux-sound-base

Reboot

No results.

stefan@debain:~$ alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

Thank you for looking

Perhaps run /usr/sbin/alsaconf to detect your card and load the needed drivers if any. I'm thinking you may be missing one of the snd_* kernel drivers.

Then run alsamixer again. Your sound will probably be muted.
If your distro has a sound configuration program, run that as well.
