Hello linuxquestions.org forum members I wonder if you could help me

I've built myself a new computer and it uses a 320gb seagate sata2 hdd which I have installed Windows XP on.

I want to install ubuntu dapper so I can dual boot but during the partitioning phase of the install I can see my hard disk listed but I cannot see any of the ext3 partitions I have setup.

Is there a way of getting around this ?

Whilst testing I managed to install SuSe 10.1 but was informed by the installer that it would not be able to resize or move etc, etc my partitions which I put down as a lack of support for sata drives. SuSe just isn't for me and I miss my Ubuntu....HELP!

I am currently downloading the alternate version of Ubuntu in the hope this will let me install it but just incase it doesn't I'd thought I'd ask for some expert advice.

I have hunted through the forum here and if I have missed a post that would answer my question I do apologise.

I suspect it is also a driver issue. Have you googled for your motherboard and chipset to see if there are kernel drivers available for the SATA controller? It usually takes a bit for linux guys to reverse engineer the drivers if it's a new chipset. It's possible they're in the new 2.6.17 kernel (not sure what is on Dapper).
