cant download ubuntu or opensuse!!!!! >:O
 

okay so i ordered a ubuntu cd for my computer and i booted it and hit the install ubuntu option. its starts loading then my computer goes on hybernate or standby and it wont get out of it. i hit the power button on my computer and it comes back on and says to remove the cd and press enter to continue then my computer turns off and when i start it back up nothing got installed! i even chose the option of trying ubuntu without installing and it does the same thing. i checked the disk for defects and it said there were none.

now for opensuse. i just downloaded the iso from the opensuse website and it boots on my computer. i clickthe first option which i guess is downloading it, and it goes to this screen where its like checking everything and it keeps saying done on the right side, then my computer goes into hybernate or sleep again!!!! ive turned off sleep mode and everything but it still does it!!

someone pleaseeeeeee help this is very frusturating

Sounds like a video issue to me, what are the specs on your system? If when you first boot the ubuntu disk when it pauses for you to hit enter, press F4 and try "safe graphic options" and see if that will help.

and the openSUSE i downloaded was for x86 computers so i thought it would work.

and i tried "safe graphic option" but my screen just went black insted of standby mode

What video card does it have?

Edit: At the same place press Esc this will dump you into a text mode install.

I should also ask are trying a dual boot install and if so do you have data you need to backup? If you've never installed linux before make sure you do some reading on setting up partitions, just do a search here or on www.google.com/linux .

Ok there's a few other things you can try first go back to that same screen and you will find a command line that you can add boot parameters. Use the left right arrow keys go to the right and at the end (leave a space) then add vga=771 then if that doesn't work go back and also add pci=noacpi You can also try vga=791

what screen do i do that on because ive never been able to type anything in?

im not too sure what size it is. i think its 800x600

i found the boot thing to type in the commands but it says "could not find kernel image"

Sorry On the same screen with all the Function option press F6 leave everything that comes up and add the parameters at the end.

Edit: then use the fb800x600

i press F6 and a menu comes up and it says

sorry if im frusturating you its just confusing to me

So k just above all the Funtion options when you press F6 you should see a new line of text, thats where you add the option to the end of that line.

all those boot parameters still put my computer in hybernant or sleep. do any of these work with opensuse? maybe i can try it on there.

If you can't get any options to work I would maybe think about giving Slackware a try. I've never had a system I couldn't install it on. It's a little challenging setting up the partitions if you've never done it before, but it will help you learn.

You only need the first 3 disks but if your not sure only download the first unless your on dialup. Burn the .iso at a slow speed you'll have better luck.

Yeah at the same place in OpenSuse try F5 safe settings see if that will help.

That video card you have has some issues so if it is built into the MB if you can get a Nvidia card you wouldn't have any problems installing.

Surely, maybe i'm missing something here but, you could disable power saving in the ubuntu livecd or just use the alternate CD. What's happening seems to be the PC goes to sleep, then you pressed the power button, which would surely give the shutdown command in Ubuntu, hence why you see the 'remove cd' dialogue, as thats what it says after you shut the live cd down.

i think im just going to buy a new graphics card next week and try
