A good start would be to give the exact commands you are using and errors you are getting.

Kind regards

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

Are you trying to configure a static IP address or is your machine connected to a network with a DHCP server? What distro and version are you using when you talk about enterprise 5 (RHEL5.5, CentOS 5.5, ...). Open a terminal, type the following commands as root:
Code:
lspci
ifconfig
and post output here.

Kind regards,

Eric
