cant change any display settings on the fly.

Cornerstone p1450, Leadtek GF 2 Ultra, Mandrake 8.1.

Not sure what the deal is. MD 8.0 seemed to run fine but 8.1 will not allow me to change my display settings. The "test" will simply fail on any change. And from what i can tell the settings will stick fine if i just dont test them. I have a small hunch that this may be an Xfree problem because on Mandrake 8.0 i tried upgrading to 4.1 and I ran in to some problems, even tho 4.02 and 03 went in with out a hitch.I have also noticed that some GL games that I I run. will kick me out if i try to change the rez from 640x480. I dont want to think that this is a video card issue... and these problems maybe unrealated ..... dont know ... thanks for the help.
