Unhappy Can't Change Alsa Configuration in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron)

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me find the correct configuration files for Alsa in Hardy?

I'm facing a problem with my creative soundblaster live 24bit external usb sound card (i can't get 5.1 sound :-( ). I've tried and tried but nothing seems to affect anything.

Running "speaker-test -c6 -D plug:surround51" produces sound from all the speakers, while simply running "speaker-test" (without arguments) produces sound only from the front left channel.

I've followed the comprehensive sound troubleshooting guide from Ubuntu, even recompiled alsa to get the correct driver (snd-ca0160) but as I said, nothing works.

I'm quite a newbie, and this is my first post in the forum. Kindly excuse if I have posted in the wrong place or something :") [but please do tell me so I can post in the right way in the future].

Well sort of, as in I got what I wanted, so I guess it means it is solved

had to use pulse audio and change some config. see http://www.automaticable.com/2008-05...-ubuntu-hardy/

Now I'm getting 6 channels in the mixer.

Next step. find out if cmss can be enabled ;-)

Thanks everyone for the help.
