cant burn cds with brasero.

Hey I'm having problems burning cd's data, image, and audio brasero just wont do it? I've tried mount command 'mount -t type dev dir' well I don't know what type, device, and directory means I looked in fstab read only file and I don't understand what that means either. I also tried iso9660 cant get that to work either need help please! the fstab is # /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
# devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
# / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
UUID=e1ba6d3c-cd7e-4d3d-b65c-f3b3e402ce2b / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
# swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=101375ad-d30b-4106-812e-045c2219e60f none swap sw 0 0

I don't know if this will help but I also heard of text editors vim, emac will one of those work? Just trying to find the easer route.
thank you.

I have used Brasero frequently without problems, but I have noticed that, if I try to burn a file that is corrupt (darned internet), Brasero just crashes without an error message.

When I use k3b to try to burn the same files, it at least gives me an error message saying that "It looks like the image is corrupt" or some such wording.

Try installing k3b (it should be in the repos) and burning with that and report back any error messages or other output.

Can't say much about Brasero as I've never used it but I do know I've had excellent luck with K3b(I do burn a lot of DVDs and Data CDs)

That means you're viewing the file as a user. Only root/su can edit a file.

Since you're using Brassero I'll assume your desktop is Gnome but have no ides which distro you're using (Fedora, SuSE,slackware, etc.).Please provide as much information as possible when asking for help, if we need more we'll let you knows.

Are you familiar with command line usage yet (hint-learn to use it)
The following command will burn an *.iso file to a CD.
cdrecord -v speed=10 dev=/dev/cdrom file_to_burn.iso
where /dev/cdrom is the distros name for that device (see hardware list). For further info see "man cdrecord".

This command will burn a DVD
growisofs --dvd-compat --speed=4 -Z /dev/dvdrom=file_to_burn.iso. For further info see "man growisofs

Both commands are run from a terminal in root/su mode.

Need help with this, give us a reply.

Tom

I encountered the problem concerning brasero when I tried Linux Mint. The solution I found was to install and use gnomebaker. As for k3b it's nice program but in the case of distributions using Gnome instead of KDE installation of k3b results in installation of a bunch of libraries and the other stuff.

Frankly, I don't consider this a problem. There are a number of KDE apps I prefer to their Gnome equivalents (primarily Ksnapshot, KolourPaint, and Konqueror in file manager mode); having the dependencies installed when I have ample HDD space is a small price to pay for being able to use them.

ok I have ubuntu 10.10 and the error message that is popping up is Please install the following manually and try again:
cdrdao (application)
cdrdao (application)
cdrdao (application). the only problem with that is I put the command in sudo apt-get install cdrdao and i got this Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
cdrdao is already the newest version.
cdrdao set to manually installed.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
I got that the newest version was already installed so what do I do now? I'm not asking for a turnkey solution just a simple guide, unless it has to do with code cause I don't understand all of that yet. One more thing the cdrecord is that a program I have to download because the code you tommyttt gave doesn't work? Unless i have to put in stuff for example file_to_burn? how do I put this in the terminal?
