CAN'T BOOT ANY LINUX so far because of my USB keyboard
 

O.K...this is my very first post so very sorry if this sounded stupid for you, but I could REALLY use some help or even a nice step in the right direction. My USB Keyboard does not boot with any distro i've tried so far. I've tried Libranet, Mandrake, and Redat so far. They all do the same thing. They're all completely dead in the water and I believe its because they're all looking for a PS/2 Keyboard, but I only have a USB Keyboard. The error basically is the same throughout all of my attempts...here it is:
Keyboard Timeout - AT Keyboard not present?
They all usually show two consecutive lines of this error.
Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated and thank you in advance.
Hope my first problem has a decent resolution cuz i'm really interested in getting an FTP and HTTP web server up and running! :scratch:

Check your BIOS settings regards the USB keyboard. Which motherboard and BIOS version are you using?

That error looks like a BIOS error, not from Linux. Linux certainly doesn't care if there is a keyboard connected to the machine or not, but some older BIOS'es did. How old is this machine?

Great ideas so far, but I think the problem (unfortunately) lies somewhere else because of two reasons:

1)VERY new system, so BIOS should equally be new or at least new enough.
My make and model:
ASUS Model M3N78-VM

2)MS Windows (any version) works just fine with the keyboard.

???...any more ideas?

No -- same old idea; experiment with the BIOS USB settings and the Plug and Play O/S setting. Although Windows works OK with the present settings, Linux may not. What sort of keyboard is it?

BTW the manual is available for download from ASUS.

Thank you VERY MUCH CATKIN...great work and I owe ya one!!!
I played around with about three BIOS Settings and the problem is now finally FIXED!!!
The BIG one I believe to be the most important (and from now on will be the first change in BIOS configuration when this issue happens)was to change the Plug And Play Aware OS Setting to NO instead of YES.
Only other things I did (which may have helped a little) was to RESET CONFIG DATA and also took down my USB Port speed from High (fastest) to Full (normal speed). That was found under Legacy USB Settings which was the very first time I've ever even seen (or at least changed) a BIOS having that particular type of options available for USB.
So, PROBLEMS SOLVED and thanks again!!!:hattip:

Glad you found a solution :) You might want to try putting that USB speed back to high because it is probably not necessary and will probably impact performance.
