hmmm, that is wierd, it may not be linux but your isp having some probs.
If you have windows on another hdd then try to go to gmail through there, if it works, then i would uninstall the BROWSER(not linux) and re-install it.

Ok, your a windows user right? Re-installing doesn't often solve the problem on Linux, often a little bit of investigating can do it much better ;)

I take it that NO browser can access gmail? And that it does work on your windows partition?
Can you Ping the gmail server? Open a konsole and type "ping www.gmail.com" and see what it gives, post it here if you can.

If you can ping, how far can you get with logging in? Can you load the page but not log in? Or can you login but just get "loading..."?

Can you be as specific as possible please, even your kernel version, proxy etc.

Well, it works in windows, but no other browser. I reformated and reinstalled and it fixed the problem, however im still a little curious what went wrong. Anyways, thanks for the help.

If you burned down the house, shoveled the ashes into a pit and built a new one in its place, then "no one will ever know."

GNUROCKS 12-21-2005 11:25 AM

howd you know I burnt my house down last year? were you that man in the bushes? wait now I remember, you started the fire, you did it!!
Why? why did you do that? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

merchtemeagle 12-21-2005 11:39 AM

No, seriously, re-installing the OS is no solution for such a small problem. Fixing this kind of problems properly always ends with you learning more about computers in general and linux in particular.

What I was hinting at lol.

I expect it was prop a cache / dns cache problem, i.e. outdated ip. Also if you are in the UK Gmail is Googlemail (due to some crappy law suit about "gmail" copyright) so I wouldn't be suprised if some links etc. have changed and not been updated localy.

And you can always tell the windows users as they expect reinstalling the OS will solve any problem, and it is often the fist port of call for them come a problem. No disrespect GNUROCKS, just a general observation.

i know I shouldnt of restarted however, I was boared and angry. Anyways, its over know, and I dont live in uk.
