Have just upgraded my ubuntu 10.04 to 11.04, I tried to connect my new printer canon pixma mp280, but it does not print nor scan. I downloaded to download manager the files from Canon.Com but somehow the computer does not recognize the files, and still I cannot print or scan. If someone has a solution, please I need detailed instructions. Thanks!

It is a .deb file; is tared and gunzipped. You will have to extract it, I use ark for this purpose. Once extracted, install the .deb file.

Once the file is installed, open up a web browser, and enter http://localhost:631 and press enter. This will bring up Cups, it should be installed and running. Click on the Admin tab, click on Add Priner, you will be prompted for the root password, enter it, and follow it to add your printer.

You may have to look at the Canon support pages to find out how to get the scanner running. You will need to install Sane, and then configure the scanner.
