I spoke too soon

Your solution got my x server working, but after that gnome began crashing, segmented fault. I have been researching this new prob. I dont know if it is the new gnome rpm that I got when I did the up2date or ???

I am running rh9 kernel 2.4.20-31.9 (originally was running a virgin rh9 kernel 2.4.20-8 from the red hat 9 shrike 3 CD ISO at LinuxISO.org) on an AMD K6/2 333mhz with 512 mb ram, a Pcchips M577 (junk) motherboard with onboard usb,ps/2, and sound that all plug in to AT stlye extension slots. With a Matrox Mystique 4mb PCI, 10 Gig Maxtor UDMA/33, 3com 3c509b 10/100. This pc has been giving me problems on the IDE side anyways so I'm not sure if it is not just something corrupted due to improper shutdown.

My (other) computer spent the night downloading Fedora Core 3. I haven't totally given up just yet but I am about to do some slow (8x) burns of the ISOs.

my other computer is a 3ghz P4 running winxp with an unused 120 gb drive.... maybe I'll do a dual boot - just havent found a distro I can keep running on my old box yet, and I need two working computers. Maybe I'll use the Mandrake 10.1.

anyways...

thomas
