Progress! I tried :

mount /dev/cdrom -t iso9660 /mnt/cdrom

and got this

mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only

and when I navigated to the directory, it lists three files:

autorun.inf* udfrchk.exe* udfrinst.zl*

Can I do anything with them? I tried the udfrchk.exe with gqview, but nothing showed up. I know what .exe is (obviously :P) but never heard of the other 2.

Is there any KDE app that will display these files?

That is a UDF disc. I have seen those files before.

I take it you're running the Mdk 10 stock kernel?

Anybody know if it supports udf?

One thing you could try (as root) is modprobe udf. if you get no errors, then try the mount (as udf) command I posted earlier....

Superbondbond, I didn't get an error with the probe, but when I try the other command you posted, I get an error that the cdrom is already mounted, or is busy.

If I navigate to it in either through the command line or the GUI I still just see the 3 files, one of which, when I mouse over, says "Windows Executable".

I'm going to try and find another way to burn the disks from my dad's machine.

Thanks everyone for all your help!

Chris

That's good. It means the module was loaded OK.

Did you un-mount the cd from before first? try this:

umount /mnt/cdrom

then...

mount /dev/cdrom -t udf /mnt/cdrom

Something just occurred to me.....

If you're having problems still, your CD drive might not be "multi-read" compatible. That meaning that it won't be able to read CDRs and CDRWs like what we've been dealing with.

Is your drive a standard CD-ROM (not a burner)? If so, then when you try the "mount -t udf blah blah" command above, you'll probably get a "mount: No medium found" error. If that's the case, then you're out of luck trying to mount the UDF formatted disc.

Hope that helps
