Cannot make KDSL account/connection with updated pppd/2.4.4b1 pppoe plug-in
Hello:
Please redirect me if this post belongs elsewhere.
I've been unable to complete an adsl account/ connection with KDSL with the latest release of SimplyMepis (3.4-3). I get stuck when I try to apply the path to plugin. Apparently this was updated from '/usr/lib/pppd/2.4.2/rp-pppoe.so', which works fine with the earlier Mepis 2004 release I use. The update is '/usr/lib/2.4.4b1/rp-pppoe.so'. Hitting the 'apply' button gets a warning pop-up that says 'Error KDSL - Can't Open'. This pops up twice and when closed out I get a readout at the console that says:
QImage::scale:image is null image
Qfile::writeblock:file not open
Qfile::writeblock:file not open
Qfile::writeblock:file not open
(etc. - 15 lines worth)
Qfile::open:no file name specified
Qfile::writeblock:file not open
QImage::scale:image is null image
I don't know if this is significant.
I tried a search for KDSL problems and found a post on kde-apps.org that said KDSL doesn't work with pppd/2.4.4b1 but rolling back to pppd/2.4.3 does. It also states that making a 'symlink' in /usr/lib/pppd called 2.4.4 pointing to directory 2.4.4b1 will allow you to use 2.4.4b1.
This is all pretty confusing to me and I'm not sure how to go about performing a roll-back or making a symlink. But I'm willing to try if someone can clarify to me how to do it.
I hope someone can help me figure out what I need to do to get past this problem and get a connection going. In addition, if anyone could tell me what other applications or utilities can be used to establish a PPPoE ADSL connection. If I've been too vague or haven't given enough information, please let me know and I'll post it.
Thanks in advance for any advice, and again, if I need to redirect this please let me know.
