Cannot log in 14.0.4 after clean install from windows 8

after installing Ubuntu 14.0.4 from windows 8 using the clean install option, I insert my password and it just makes the drum sound and loops me back to the initial log in screen asking for my password again. Any ideas?
Thank sin advance

What exactly do you mean by "from windows 8"? Is this a wubi install trying to install Ubuntu as a program inside windows? If so, that isn't expected to work. See the Ubuntu wubi site below:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide

If you want to install Ubuntu on its own partition, you must first burn it as an image to a DVD or use software designed for the purpose to create a bootable flash drive. If windows 8 came pre-installed, it is most likely using UEFI to boot which adds another layer of complexity to the situation. Post more details on exactly what you have tried and how.

The laptop had windows 8.
I burned the Ubuntu 14.0.4 ISO on a dvd.
Installed Ubuntu from the dvd using the option to erase everything (completely clean the hard disk before installing) so that it runs as the only OS on my laptop. Installation finished, then got the message that there is some new software and updates available, clicked OK to update and when that was finished I could not log in, it just returns to the log in page again and again.
