cannot load linux lite as my zt3301ap laptops cpu has no PAE. Any options?

My HP ZT3301AP laptop is configured to run with windows XP which is now effectively obsolete. So I thought I could continue to use it by upgrading to Linux Lite.
Unfortunately Linux Lite will not boot up because the installed CPU apparently does not have a PAE.
I do not know what PAE is and do not know whether I should dump this laptop.
Is there an alternative to Linux Lite that has a kernel that does not need a CPU with a PAE that I could install so I can continue to effectively use this laptop?

I would suggest MX-14 as it has a no PAE version and runs very well on older hardware.

Here's the link:

Is linux lite based on ubuntu 14.04? If it is, the boot option "forcepae" could help, see here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE.

If the installer does not know "forcepae" - maybe use Lubuntu instead?
