cannot install printer
 

Hello

I go to Mandrake Control centre, ( enter root password ) then hardware, click the printer Icon and then there are no more options although a small window appears saying things like "starting printer daemon etc "

any ideas?

Wait for it to finish, or does it just..not finish

it finishes and then nothing............just greyness!

I have since tried using printtool from the command line, will let you know soon how I get on......

is it poss I can install via printtool but not gui?

The printer drake can not be run in console mode. Try typing in mcc from a console, and doing the same thing maybe there will be output of the error.

well ....now the printer is installed thanks to running mcc as you suggested

but.....still nothing prints, when I do lpq there are no entries. ( after having tried to print an email )

the printer works with my windows machine ( its an old HP deskjet 510 )

another thing.......shouldn't the printer appear in the dev directory somewhere?
