Cannot install most distributions on laptop
Hello,
I have a 4 yr old win7 qosmio laptop with a 64b i7 chipset. I have been attempting to run dual boot win7/Linux for months, and have tried many distributions, including Ubuntu, TAILS, kubuntu, and GNOMES lately, but the only OS that I've been able to load is Kali (multiple releases)...all other Linux OS freezes my computer after the initial welcome screen. I've tried 64 bit and 32, older bulletproof releases, new releases...etc, but I can only run Kali. I'm honestly happy running Kali with GNOMES but am very interested in KDE and kubuntu. The fact that I can only install 1 Linux OS out of the dozens I've tried is perplexing. Every release of Kali I've tried has installed and ran beautifully by the way. Is Kali programmed to boot differently or uses a Debian format that loads slightly different? That seems like a stupid question, but I've studied and studied and cannot see why most Linux distributions fail to install. Any ideas? |
Also, I only download iso's from the developers themselves, I run chksums on all my iso's and burn image vs copy...so I know I don't think it's the iso's fault that the OS will not install.

Another possibility is to try a distro that installs on the command line, like Slackware. Ubuntu used to have an alternative installation disc with a non-graphical installer, but I don't know if they still do that.

Knowing what you are talking about because everyone has a qosmio laptop in their closet. http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/lap...smio-x75-a7298 |

Currently, the OS is dual boot Kali 2016.1 amd64 and win7 sp1 x64. Only the BIOS firmware is original. Both drives have been completely wiped and re-partitioned at some point. I had the problems with Linux distributions before and after I wiped my drives, and I've tried multiple setups in my bios. I've read forums and FAQ's for over a year trying to find something new to try. Will give the suggestions here a try tonight. Cheers. |
