Hi,

I have been trying to install lucid lynx. The opening page for 10.04 will come on but there is a message that the installer has encountered an unrecoverable error and would activate the live cd. How do I go about finding out what went wrong on the installation.

My machine is an older machine PIII 866 on an asus cuv4x-e board with about 384 Ram.

I am now emailing with the live cd.

I did attempt to run the program from the hard disk but the screen shows an error and reverted to grub rescue.

Anyone can enlighten me on how to solve it?

if your hardware is ok, try installing again, but check first for cd defects.
Please post errors so for better help.

I have removed a stick of RAM and the installer loads well. All okay until I reboot. After POST, I get this message

error : out of disk
grub rescue>

any ideas how to use grub rescue?

I have been digging the forum and come across a command ls; it shows the following,

grub rescue> ls
(hd0) (hd0,1) (fd0)

I read somewhere in the ubuntu forums that there is a possibility that the bios is faulty. Tried to get a copy of the bios but it seems my computer is too old. No more support for it.

From what I understand of linux, it should be able to run on old computers. How do I go about configuring it for my computer?

256 mb ram is minumim for ubuntu flavours, so maybe you are not out of hard drive, but ram

should not be I have 384 mb ram. The one stick I removed had 256 mb ram but it was of a different brand.

While in live CD mode, I am able to get into the hard disk and everything is there. It is only when I try to boot from the hard disk that the earlier mentioned error comes on.

I ran the boot_info_script and have attached the result.txt file. Anybody can help me decipher it? I suspect it is the grub2 bootloader problem.
