Cannot get Wireless to work all the time Ubuntu 12.04

I tried the XP driver and all seems to work just fine. Thanks to everyone who views this thread. Jmg198

Hello to all who read this. Please help me!

I am 5 days new to Ubuntu 12.04 and anything Linux. I'm trying to get away from MS.

I have tried to get my Netgear WG311v3 adapter to work in Ubuntu 12.04. I read other things and downloaded ndiswrapper and downloaded the netgear drivers. All seemed to work great until I restarted the computer.

When I restart, the wireless connection won't work. I have to reinstall the driver to get it to work again. I do have a temporary wired connection. I have selected for the wireless to connect automatically and for the wired to not connect automatically.

I prefer help using the gui method as I am not very knowledgable in the other avenues. However, with good instructions I should be able to manage.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you post your solution so others having the same problem as you in future will know what fixed it for you?

To solve my issue, I installed the XP driver instead of the Window 2000 driver. I used the ndiswrapper to install the windows drivers. I hope this helps someone having the same issue.

I'm confused by that. You installed Windows drivers to solve a Linux issue? Or you went back to Windows instead of using Linux?

To my knowledge (which isn't very deep) there isn't a linux driver for the Netgear wireless adapter I use. I read somewhere that by downloading and using the ndiswrapper software that I could trick Ubuntu into using the windows driver. I have no understanding of the mechanics at work here but it worked. I did not go back to using windows! jmg198
