cannot get freetuxtv to work

I am using netrunner 13.12 and have installed freetuxtv. When I start the program I start by adding a a group of channels from the channels button, say english. After I add the group I get a whole list of channels. Then I try to strat a channel like Amazing Facts TV by clicking it. It doesn't matter which channel I press on I always get the error from freetuxtv saing "An error occured while playing channel 'Amazing Facts Tv' : http//bglive-w.bitgravity.com/amazingfacts/live/feed01 If the problem persists, you can report the that the link is dead at http//database.freetuxtv.net/If the problem persits," well the contents of the errorpertain to the channel being tried, but it's the same type of error report. So far I have been unsuccessful at finding a solution on my own. I have tried searching google, bing, and then asking my friends. So far I can only find out how to install freetuxtv not make it work.
thank you,
Jonnynitro138

Do you have VLC installed? Out of interest I installed freetuxtv. I noticed references to vlc when streaming a channel.

Quote:

Try installing VLC then start a stream with freetuxtv again.

I have vlc installed and use it as my main video player. Perhaps I am missing a pluggin for it. What pluggins are you using for vlc?

I don't install any plugins for vlc.

Open a terminal or konsole, then type freetuxtv. Once the program has started, close it, copy and paste the (terminal/konsole) output here like the example below.

The only real difference I see is...

Mine:

[FreetuxTV] INFO : Compiled with LibVLC version 2.1.2
[FreetuxTV] INFO : Compiled with libnotify version 0.7.6
[FreetuxTV] INFO : Loading FreetuxTV 0.6.6

Yours:

[FreetuxTV] INFO : Compiled with LibVLC version 2.0.1
[FreetuxTV] INFO : Compiled with libnotify version 0.7.5
[FreetuxTV] INFO : Loading FreetuxTV 0.6.5

Do you know how to compile and install from source code? If not, i'll have a go at compiling and installing version 0.6.6 on an Ubuntu machine. If I am successful and the program runs correctly, I will post a 'How-To' for you to follow.
