the owner's manual doesn't have the ranges
and i can't seem to find it on the dell support site
i'm using ubuntu 8.04 and the only resolutions i'm getting are 600x800 and another smaller one when on windows i can get up to 1680x1050
is there a way to find it from the command prompt
i can't find documentation
and it looks really retarded
can anyone help me?

H/V sync refers to the refresh rate, while the figures you have quoted refers to resolution. Two different parameters.

I am assuming that resolution is what you are referring to. Since Windows can do 1680, you can safely conclude that that is the max resolution for the monitor. Try editing the xorg.conf file under etc/X11 to include the max res of the monitor. It is best to search online for which sections of the conf file to edit.

An aside : For noobs, ubuntu is not the best distro since it emphasises the command line too much. Managing resolution and other aspects of the display is much easier when done with a GUI, and for this you fill find PC Linux, Mandriva or Opensuse more accomodating.

my xorg.conf file is retarded
it's all set to DEFAULT blah blah
i need the h and v-sync so i can configure the xorg.conf file to have the resolutions with the right refresh rates
i'm not a total noob
i have slackware 12 on my other computer
i understand that one more than ubuntu
in the sense of setting up hardware
uhm
i just need to know how to find the sync ranges of this XPS One A2010
it's not in the manual
it's an all in one Dell PC with Windows Vista Ultimate

Anthony, please post your xorg.conf display section when you get it figured out for the XPS ONE A2010.

I want to put some of these in my business, so my clients can surf and watch TV, but I am NOT going to babysit Windows Honeypots, I have a life to live.
