I am assuming that resolution is what you are referring to. Since Windows can do 1680, you can safely conclude that that is the max resolution for the monitor. Try editing the xorg.conf file under etc/X11 to include the max res of the monitor. It is best to search online for which sections of the conf file to edit.

it's all set to DEFAULT blah blah
i need the h and v-sync so i can configure the xorg.conf file to have the resolutions with the right refresh rates

in the sense of setting up hardware
