Cannot control volume levels when sound via TOSLINK IEC958 on ALC883
 

My sound goes through my TOSLINK to an audio amp and when booted into XP I can control the sound levels, but when in DEBIAN I cannot. Its either ON or OFF

Took me ages to get sound, in the end it was just turning on the IEC958 on the mixer after doing the alsaconf

I am guessing that if I use the IEC958 you cannot control sound levels (BTW the IEC958 PCM default on the ALSA Mixer did not turn on the sound).

IS there any way to control sounds levels when using TOSLINK?
