Cannot connect to the internet : Ethernet card problem!!!

Hi,

I'm new and I couldn't find any previous threads that help.

I just installed linux redhat 9 and I cannot connect to the internet. I have an onboard ethernet card Intel(R) PRO/1000 CT on ABIT IC7-G MAX II motherboard.

When I configured the network connection, this card did not seem to be listed in the list of the adapters. How can I know whether this card is automatically detected by linux? What should I do now?

Thanks

Some hardware is not auto-detected by Linux. For instance, I have an ethernet adapter built into my nVidia motherboard. RH Linux WS did not detect it. I tried looking for some kind of Linux device driver, but could find nothing. I finally just threw in an old INTEL PCI NIC I had laying around, and rebooted. It detected it on boot up, so I assigned it an IP and it has been working fine. For more Linux compatibility info go to http://www.linuxcompatible.org/compatibility.html .

Do you get a message at a start up that eth0 has failed ? By any chance - did you put the card in after you installed linux ? I had that problem so i reinstalled linux and then it was just fine.
Also remeber to activate it. I am a new to this as well and redhat sucks.

NDiswrapper is a utility that allows you to "wrap" wireless card drivers for Windows so that work with Linux. But I don't know if it will work with a normal onboard card...

anyway, you can get it at http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net I think..
