I have purchased the SuSe 8.2 version of Linux and everything is working fine other than my Internet connection. I have tried and tried but simply cannot get online ...
I have an internal ADSL card - the make (name on the box it came in) is 'Mentor' but in Windows 98 it uses a Conexant driver (I believe it has a Conexant chipset). When installing SuSe (I have done this many, many times now ...) it picks up the ADSL card as a Network card and configures it as one. I have tried ajusting the settings as described in the manual but no matter what I have tried (and I have tried many different set-up configurations) it still refuses to work and connect to the net.
Also, when using my ADSL connection in Windows via the Conexant software, I have to key in a 'phone' number. When I boot my machine in Windows, I have to wait until the ADSL connection is established before 'dialing in' - this is very similar to the procedure used with a regular 56k dial-up Modem - password/username/'logging on to network' etc. There is no option with SuSe's ADSL set-up to key a number in. Perhaps I should be using the ISDN set-up instead ? In which case, is there a suitable make of Modem on the ISDN list I can use or perhaps a suitable driver out there somewhere ??
Somebody please help as SuSe Linux is a wonderful OS but I just need to get online again !!
Thanks in advance ...
