Cannot connect to debian server

Hello,

I have problem with my debian server. Nearly every day I cannot connect to the server. Sometimes ping is working but http, sftp, putty not. Sometimes nothing works (ping, http, sftp, putty). I have to call support after that to restart the server. After restart everything works fine again. If I as support, what's the problemm, they always say, network is ok, it have to be software problem on my server.

My question is, how to find out where the problem is? Have a look in some special log file, install some special monitoring software... something else?

It would be nice, if somebody could help me.
Patrik

You don't give alot of details, so it's hard to say; you don't say what the server is doing, the environment, what you're running on it, or how you're connecting to it.

Check your syslogs, and see if there are any problems. Cat out /etc/syslog.conf, and see where your system information is going, and look in that/those file(s). If the server isn't hanging up, you may have a network problem somewhere.
