I am new to Knoppix and linux generally

After I used knoppix 3.3 and made some changes I wasnt able to boot windows again. It didnt seem to be able to access the HD or something. When I start the computer after a few seconds it restarts. I think that the last think it mentions before restarting is: "NTDETECT failed".

I am still able to boot Knoppix from the cd

A thing that might have caused it, is that I have changed the "swap file configuration" in Knoppix, I have set it to 100MB, I dont think there was one before. Now I am trying to reconfigure the swap file but it sais "Sorry, no DOS partition available for swap file"

I dont remember anything else that I might have changed the last time before the problem showed up.

When I log off from Knoppix it sais:

"could not unmount /KNOPPIX -trying/dev/cloop"

hhhmmmm i fear you may have caused problems with your windows partition, boot up knoppix and use fdisk or cfdisk to verify that your partitions are intact, then if they are mount your windows partition and take a look inside, if everythign looks alright pull out your windows cd and go to rescue mode, i dont know the commands for other windows versions but for winXP type fixmbr into the dos console and see if that fixes things

Hmmm... from what it seems Ill prolly have to do a nice format because there seems to be something wrong with the partitions

I change a lot between linux distro's, and I had a similar problem. I think your bootloader is changed/damaged. Are you running XP? Boot from the XP install disc and use something like fix windows / repair windows. It will fix your bootloader.

(becarefull when your running in root / su (with your distro))
(dont use the diskette option)
