Hi,
when you do a hard reboot ie power off/on, what do you see? Can you give your HW spec?
BTW, Fedora is the bleeding edge / R & D distro from RH. Not suitable for serious stuff like running an internet cafe. Also, there's a new version every year, F8 is no longer supported or updated. They're on F12 or 13 by now.
Highly suggest you get a long term stable distro like Centos (free version of RHEL). Updates for 7 yrs.

You might be able to boot to a live cd to repair or upgrade your system.

for an internet Cafe you might look into using Debain
The New York Stock Exchange is run on Debain

But CentOS5.4 / RedHat RHEL5.4 is user friendly

use the fedora 8 install cd to repair it .Using the "rescue " mode ,just fallow the onscreen instructions

but upgrade NO
it is IMPOSABLE to "upgrade" fedora 8 and turn it into a fedora 12 box
you MUST do a fresh install
-- how ever i would use Cent if you want to stay with rpm packages
download and burn a centOS5.4 cd/dvd and burn the .iso to disk.

upgrade from fc8 to fc11
With fedora a "upgrade IS NOT POSSIBLE
I have Never had a fedora "upgrade" work in the last 5 years.

Do a FRESH install of fedora 12 [b] after a reformat of the drive/s
Fedora 12 uses ext4 file system and a NEW boot partition format

but I WOULD install CentOS or Debain on a server at a internet cafe

chrism01 03-09-2010 06:38 PM

NYSE on RHEL http://searchenterpriselinux.techtar...316018,00.html & a few others http://www.pcworld.com/businesscente..._exchange.html.
Rumour has it after the last crash at LSE on MS, they're moving to Linux.

pop the fedora 8 install cd in and reboot with it in the drive
then fallow the on screen instructions
type in " rescue " then fallow the instructions
then type in
chroot /mnt/sysimage ( as per the instructions)

then use "nano" an terminal text editer to read /var/log/boot.log ,Xorg.0.log , dmesg ,and messages
Code:

nano /var/log/boot.log

nano /var/log/Xorg.0.log
nano /var/log/messages

the error will be in there
