Cannot activate graphics drivers in Ubuntu 12.04
After recently building my computer and starting to use Ubuntu for the first time I tried activating my graphics drivers from the additional drivers program. I have two drivers that are not activated;
*ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver *ATI/AMC proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release updates) The first driver (non-update one), when I go to activate it, will download then tell me I need to restart my computer for it to activate. When I restart my computer and check it, it once again says that it's not activated and I must do the process over again, which never resolves itself. The second driver (the post-release update one) is unactive as well, and when I go to activate it, I get an error message stating "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log". I asked about this error message in an earlier thread from couple days ago on a different problem and was never explained how to find the log file it asked for (or if I was, I didn't understand it and I apologize, especially since I'm brand new to Linux). I was also told not to worry about it as long as I activated the other one. But now I cannot activate either. Any help is greatly appreciated! |
Is this Ubuntu 12.04 installed on your Hard Drive or are you running it from a CD or USB?

I'm running with it installed to the Hard Drive. I did notice that the first driver sometimes does activate after restarting, but it'll deactivate on the next restart, so it seems to only activate every once in a while on restart and not every time. I would say I've restarted about 10-15 times and it's only activated for one of them and it is now currently inactive.

Yea, I've got the same issue. I have the proprietary ATI fglrx driver installed & activated but it "is not currently in use". Anyone know how to make that happen?
Actually, @HolyMythos, have you tried doing "cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf" to see weather or not the fglrx drivers are in use? Mine claims they are even though Jocky-gtk says otherwise. |
