Question Cannot access Network Centre

I have recently purchased an second hand Acer Aspire one ZG5. When I attempt to access the internet via ethernet at work or home I get that "browser server not found" screen. The wireless LAN button has been switched off. When I click on the Network Centre nothing opens up.
Operating system Limpus Linux Lite v1.0.7.E
BIOS version v0.3109

How do you connect? broadband? Dial up?
What is the tcp/ip configuration?
Are you getting the ip address from dhcp or is it static?

My connection at home is broadband.
I cannot get into my network centre (otherwise not sure where tcp/ip configuration might be).
My broadband provider is Sky so I am going to hazzard a guess at dhcp.

If you have broadband connection, then surely you have a adsl modem router. Can you ping it?
Look at the modem/router manual for what is its internal ip address. The default for most is 192.168.0.1. Try to ping it. If you can then you can assign ip address in the same range to connect to router.
