Cannon 5720 Printer installation
 
Cannon MG5720. I cannot find linux drivers etc. with instructions for this model
I am using Robolinux (Ubuntu) with the add printer greyed out. Robolinux author no help.
I AM A NEWBIE just getting started in linux.

Surf in a browser to http://localhost:631. Set it up there in the Administration tab. If that page doesn't show, check you have cups installed.

There are gutenprint drivers available for the MG5700 series which should already be included in your distro, and many of the Canon models are supported by the 'sane-pixma' driver for scanning (included as part of sane-backends). So, a good idea to if these work for you first.

In addition to the above, Canon has Linux drivers available for the MG5700 series. The scanner driver supplied by the scangearmp2-3.20-1-dev.tar.gz package is a little different as it is not a SANE backend as such, but instead comes with it's own scangearmp scanning utility. Use the proprietary packages only if the open source drivers don't work for you.
