Cannon 5720 Printer installation
Cannon MG5720. I cannot find linux drivers etc. with instructions for this model
I am using Robolinux (Ubuntu) with the add printer greyed out. Robolinux author no help. I AM A NEWBIE just getting started in linux. |

Surf in a browser to http://localhost:631. Set it up there in the Administration tab. If that page doesn't show, check you have cups installed. |
There are gutenprint drivers available for the MG5700 series which should already be included in your distro, and many of the Canon models are supported by the 'sane-pixma' driver for scanning (included as part of sane-backends). So, a good idea to if these work for you first.
In addition to the above, Canon has Linux drivers available for the MG5700 series. The scanner driver supplied by the scangearmp2-3.20-1-dev.tar.gz package is a little different as it is not a SANE backend as such, but instead comes with it's own scangearmp scanning utility. Use the proprietary packages only if the open source drivers don't work for you. |
