can you mount a win printer?

Is there a way to mount a windows printer without samba server?
I am hoping that there is a way to use the mount command.

To the best of my knowledge it's generally
impossible to mount character-devices.

To be able to print to a printer attached to
a windows machine you will need SaMBa

Cheers,

I dunno? I was actually asking for a classmate. I don't know what his intentions are. Interesting to learn about however.

The best lesson you could encourage your classmate to learn would be how to do his own work. Just my 2 cents. -- J.W.

You can just enter the share info in the printer config (in RH9), where the Win box is treated as the server, so the Linux box is just using the Samba client.

If your linux box uses CUPS as its print manager then you can add Windows printers using the Web manager localhost:631
Use add printer and when asked for the device choose Windows printer via Samba . This just uses the Samba client on the linux box.
The format of the entry for device is smb://usernameassword@servername/printshare

Where the username and password belong to a Windows user on the machine, the servername is the Windows computer name and the printshare is the name of the shared printer.
