Can you get a distro of Puppy that DOESN'T load entirely in RAM?
I am brand new to Linux and have an old Dell Latitude CPi-A with only 128 MBs of ram. I am looking for one of two distros here, either a version of Puppy that loads onto the hard drive or another distro that can run 'efficiently' with only 128 MBs of ram while still maintaining the ability to run applications. I desperately want to learn Linux and this is my only option. I am SSOOOOO tired of paying 'they-who-must-not-be-named' for an operating system. Thank you for any help.

well
I would personally recommend a debian minimal install with a small wm like fluxbox, or whatever puppy, loads to ram unless you do a full hd install, not frugal debian or slack minimal, even Ubuntu, will be better Plus, with any of them above you have access to many light pkg's like midori web browser how much hardrive space is on the lappy? maybe install a feww? |
DSL Linux turns into a small Debian Linux when install on a hard drive.
