Can we join a Windows client to LDAP sever

Hi.. I am a learner in linux environment, I am having good experience in Windows ADS.

My question is will LDAP do the same as Windows ADS. If so guide me in below topics

1. Can a Windows XP client controlled by LDAP as we can do in Windows ADS
2. LDAP features

Regards

LDAP is a directory service, it doesn't *DO* anything in itself. directory services is just one of MANY MANY different things AD does, and the two are really not comparable at all.
