Lightbulb can U say what e,x,t stands for in ext2 or ext3?


ext3 or ext2 is the Linux file system.
is it an abbreviation?
if yes, plz expand it.

I knew it was 'second extended file system' but I had to google to find out *why*. As I understand it, 'ext' was an extension on the limited Minix fs, as the first native file system for Linux (which was developed on Minix) and then 'extended' again, sort of - hence ext2.

Thanks for the effort for me.
Hope some one comes out with more info.
I am now residing in a remote area where the band width is very low,
and its very annoying using the Internet.
