Can not see shared folders

I am running Ubuntu 14. in virtual box on a early 2008 imac. I have a shared folder on my imac and have the Ubuntu Public folder shared.

The problem is Ubuntu can not see the imac folder and the imac can not see the Ububtu\Public folder.

Just to be clear, this is a folder shared between host and guest via VirtualBox, not a network share?

If this is a share on the same machine with Ubuntu in Virtualbox, you could install Guest Additions as described on the VirtualBox site. Don't know how this will work with an imac.
