Can not able to install Fedora 9 in Dell Vostro 1014 laptop

Hi All,

I can not able to install Fedora 9 in my Dell Vostro 1014 laptop.
At the begining stage of installation, it asks, What type of media contains the packages to be installed?
Options given are,
Local CD/DVD
Hard Drive
NFS Directory
URL

I tried first two options where in which it can't able to find the required driver in the next step as it promts and ask us to select a specific driver from the availablity options. How can I find which driver to be seleted? I tried different drivers; it didn't work.

Fedora DVD is good as I could able to install it in my friend's desktop.

Please help me to install Fedora. Let me know if you need any other information.

First of all, Fedora 9 is very old. It is now at 15. So the first step should be to get a current release.

We need some information on the laptop. Does it have a CD or DVD drive? Make and model will help, since drivers are related to the make and model.

How did you boot the install? Form DVD or HD? If you booted it from DVD, then you probably don't need to worry about a driver, its working.

I would also suggest you look for a 'How to' for installation. They guide noobs through the basics, and ask here if you need more help.

You need to supply as much information as you have, like the type of drive, if its a drive problem.

I use 9 version because, I was doing some reserach networking project in this specific version and that is version dependent.
I will update to 15 once I finish this assignment.

My laptop contanins DVD driver.
DVD/CD-ROM drives ---- > TSST corp DVD+RW TS-L633J
Disk Drives ---------- > WDC WD3200BPVT-75ZEST0
Processors ----------- > Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6670 @ 2.20GHz

I install through DVD itself. I teied many times by selecting different drives; didn't work.
If any troubleshooting method is there to give you more details, please let me know the procedure. I will provide you all the necessary details.

The DVD drive is working, if the system booted to start the install.

You should not be selecting a driver for the DVD. I'm not sure I understand your problem. So, let me ask some questions, ans see if we can clarify. Most of them these days work out of the box, however with that old version, I can't be sure.

Have you got some free space on the hard drive? By that I mean space not allocated to any OS ( windoze) or any partition.

A system from Dell would not be shipped with free space. If you have free space, how did you create it?

Here is a link to a how-to.

Is a pdf file you can download. Can you give me a reference point on how far you get?
