Can limit the direcotry size

We have a directory in my redhat 4 server , there are many user will write / append files to it , can advise if I want to limit the size of the directory , once the size reach to a certain size ( eg. 2G ) , then forbid to write files to it , is it possible to do it ?

Besides , if I would like to control the size of files in the directory , any files once the size reach to 2G , then forbid to write to it , is it possible ?

thanks.

Has not google helped you ?

I googled and found these solutions. I havn't had the need to implement these myself. First option is LVM. If you are using lvm filesystem , then you can set size and later grow them. LVM operations are well documented and googling should help you find the right commands.

I see that ZFS has this support.

You could create a big file with dd and format and mount the file with qoutas as discussed here LQ question on directory qouta . Another option is this fuse plugin which says it implement the directory qouta fuse qouta
