Hi,

you mean "Internet Relay Chat", an a client not server. In which case search for a client in using your package manager, install it and run it. It should be no different to installing any other package. If this doesn't help please explain in more detail what the problem is.

no problem, this is the situation,
i use to have a toshiba and on it, i would use mIRC on my old toshiba which ran on windows 7, this is the web site i get it off http://download.cnet.com/mIRC/3000-2150_4-10001733.htmli would have no problem running it on my old lap top and desk top which were ran on windows 7. now that im using linux i tried to down load mIRC on this computer but an error occors after i down load the intial package and it says "error occurredwhile loading the archive". so what can i do, am i downloading the right version of mIRC, and if not would u know where to find it?

Hi,

from that web site:
Quote:

mIRC is a full featured Internet Relay Chat client for Windows
Key word here is "Windows". It will not work on your Ubuntu box. Install an irc using your package manager. Are you familiar with your package manager? I think Ubuntu gui front end called "Software Centre".

PS. Reporting this to the mods so it can be moved from the Security forum

In addition to irssi, there are a number of other IRC clients for Linux.

This article discusses several of them: http://www.linux.com/news/software/a...ents-for-linux
