I am presently dual booting WinXP and RH7.3 on a Highpoint 370 RAID array. The RedHat kernel is modified to run on the array. Can I upgrade to RH9 from within Linux simply by using the upgrade feature in the install process? I have a feeling that I can't but, quite frankly, I am afraid to try

I have never actually done that upgrade, but as an owner of a HPT370 I have thought through how I would go about it a few times.

I would compile the open source driver on another box that is already running Redhat 9 so you end up with the htp37x2.o for RH9. Once you have that I would try to follow the instructions for RH8 installation and see if it works.

Keep in mind that when I upgrade my system I am going to make a good backup first and go into it with the expectation that I will have to reload the OS from scratch if anything doesn't go exactly perfect.

I had to go through some major gyrations to install RH7.3 on my system to begin with because of the RAID array. I have a feeling that I will have to use the same procedure only with a modified RH9 kernel instead. Any help anyone else has on this would be much appreciated.
