Yes, from lspci output you can tell if you have got the official vendor driver or not. Linux is becoming more popular day by day and thus hardware vendors make sure that they do provide linux version of their drivers. This makes OS vendor possible to incorporate more hardware drivers in their install and thus saving the users from finding / installing drivers seperately.
If you are using Debian and haven't made efforts to install the proprietary driver yourself, I would be most surprised if it wasn't using the (Radeon) open source driver.
That last reply was not very useful even though I agree. I am new to Debian. Were you looking for an excuse to make your 9,999 post?
However, why does it say Radeon if it is not the proprietary? Should it not use another generic label? My next questions in this forum will be how to install the proprietary drivers in the best way possible to avoid problems and how to promote this kernel to PAE or other that will allow me to use the 4 gig of RAM.
I was merely trying to point out that Debian is stridently pro free/open-source.
As for radeon doco, try here - although it isn't responding at the moment for me.
Post counts are meaningless - as I've told jeremy.
