That tv card uses the philips 7133/4 chip so that should work although you may have some issues getting it to produce sound. Not impossible, but on my ASUS card that has the same chip, it did not work without some tweaking.

The sata controller is almost certain to give you a good deal of headaches. It has a history of incompatibility issues going back many years so I would be surprised if it that had changed recently, what with that type of card being quite old already.

Audiowerk should function if you use the alsa sound system. See http://home.gna.org/aw2-alsa/

BTW, considering support for that card is fairly recent, you may benefit from installing 9.04 rather than 8.04.

thanks, but...

Doesn't look like I'll get things working by the end of this day. What raid controller can I use instead of sil3112? I can really use the wd drives. I'd indeed like the tv tuner card working, but what is tweaking??? I really miss my audiowerk, so I'll do anything to get it working.

According to the README file in dban (dan's boot and nuke), the only true raid card for SATA drives is 3ware. The others are fake raid, utilizing the CPU for some tasks a true raid card would handle. From a web site i've visited, the promise sata cards are the worst in this regard. Little better than the fake raid that comes built in with some mobo's.

Do you really need hardware RAID? Thing is, you can have software RAID for free. It works perfectly but it may eat up some extra CPU cycles; not much of a problem unless you have a really old CPU.

Well, "tweaking" is making some minor modifications. I use mythTV and I had to select a different output channel than the one that is selected by default. That does not sound too complex, I know, the only problem is I had some trouble figuring this out because mythTV has like a million settings that you can change. By the way, your sound may simply work, you won't know until you give it a try - but you will need to get your soundcard working first.
