can i make my linux box a dual boot with xp on it
 

if i have already installed kubuntu , is there anyway to add xp to this box or can u not do that

yes you can, why not? install xp and then reinstall grub, lilo.

you can do it. but thing that will happen is you will lose your grub, since the windows boot manager will overwrite it. What you would need to do is after installing winxp use the rescue disc and go to rescue mode and recover your grub, reinstall it.
there might be other ways!

what do mean by add? what is it you are trying to achieve?

People have pretty much told you what to do :/.

You'll need to make some room for Windows, if your entire hard drive is partitioned and there's no free space left. GNU Parted is one utility you can use to resize partitions.

Next, proceed with the installation of XP, creating a new partition out of the aforementioned free space. Windows will overwrite your MBR with its own bootloader, you aren't given a choice in this.

As above, if your distro's CDs have a "rescue" mode, use that to reinstall the bootloader to the MBR. You may have to add an entry for Windows to the config file yourself, though.

ok sorry for not being more understanding , i have kubuntu installed right now i would like to have a dual boot with xp can i add this kind of config to my system

yes you can dual boot xp with kubuntu. you will need to configure your bootloader (grub) to recognize xp also. i think i see what you meant by add. well you add it in the grub.conf and so grub can give you a nice menu to choose from as to what you want to boot.

Google is your friend, you know. GNU Parted. Your distro may have a package for it or a similar app.

have you got any space left in your hdd? well this is a good time to check it out. run 'fdisk -l' and compare its output to those of 'df -h' or 'mount' commands to see what partitons are used by whom. if you have a free partition left then its easy for you to go along with your plans, else you may need to resize. and
