Question Can I download anything by using root console?

Hey guys,
I was wondering If I could download any file by using root console or not?
Downloading files like sendmail or qmail is easy because there aren't that much file to download from ,thus you can easily find the file you're searching in the ftp server.
How about downloading a file from download.com??
Thousands of applications, nearly impossible to browse with a simple ftp program.
Is there any easier way to browse or is it just impossible?

not *quite* sure what your asking.
if your asking is there a way to dl files without using a browser then you could use something like lynx. i use it all the time from a console.
