Question Can I configure the Terminal

Hi I have Mandrake 9.2 installed on a Dell Latitude Notebook.

I have not installed a GUI, and am working from the terminal/console (could some one explain the correct terminology used?).

I would like to find out how I can configure the resolution of the terminal screen (and if possible additional aspects such as Fonts for example). At present the display area is smaller than the notebook monitor (i.e. I have a border).

Is it possible to change the resolution to fit the screen i.e. 1027 x 768?

I also I am using Vim to code php, in the previous installation (that included KDE and was basically a default installation) Vim had colour highlighting. I don't have that in this limited installation. Do I need to install additional packages for Vim? I have colour text in terminal.

I have searched Google and this site for answers to these questions, but I am perhaps don't know the correct terminology of words used and have had fruitless searches.

Any help or pointers to man pages would be greatly appreciated.

Jamie.

Perhaps someone can point me in the direction of a website that focuses on the Linux terminal/console.

I am prepared for the 50 million man pages that I will probably have to read

I don't know about how to change the resolution, but for "additional aspects" I like the Linux Newbies simple look at shells: http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/lnag_basics.html#shells

It shows you how to configure the prompt, with colours and such.
