can i boot vista and fedora independently

hi,
i have 2 harddisks, 1st dedicated to vista and 2nd to fedora 8. I installed vista first and then fedora alongwith grub 1.5 with default boot set to vista. hard disk 1 is pata, 2nd is sata. I installed grub in 2nd harddisk (fedora) with boot (196 mb) just because i had a desire to boot vista hdd without any interference from fedora (or say grub, bootloader). My question is if i remove 2nd harddisk (fedora) from system, i am unable to boot vista (it says bootloader is missing, grub says harddisk error). While checking from vista dvd, it doesnt point any error in startup). And, when i put back 2nd harddisk to system, it properly boots vista again without any problem. When I specifically installed grub in fedora hdd why it is giving/transferring error to vista hdd, specially when i remove the fedora hdd at all (and the fact is grub installed on fedora hdd itself). Is it issue pertaining to mbr specific or is there any solution by which I could boot both systems independently (as well as in sync. with fedora hdd in place). Kindly help me in this regard. thanks you

Use your favorite browser and search the internet for instructions on how to make a grub boot diskette or boot cd. With grub installed on the removable media instead of the MBR of a hard drive, you should no longer have that problem.
