Can anyone give me a step by step guide to get aircrack working?

Hello, after trying Morphix, I downloaded Ubuntu, and I now have a GUI that I recognise.
I need to test my WEP key and was told aircrack is the program to do it with.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get it started?

I am a total novice when it comes to Linux, so laymans terms please.

Linux is the way forward!

And since we don't know whether you're *really* trying
to crack your own key and not someone else's I'm closing
this thread with these words ... sorry.

Cheers,
