Can anybody please tell me the difference between these certifications..please

Hi guys,

looking to get certified in Red Hat enterprise linux using centOS as my working example. I was busy reading a book but the more i get into it, the more i feel it is not what im looking for...its more of a work book. (not that i dont like working examples, just feels like im missing info...not getting the whole picture)

any way somebody mentioned to me books by Michael Jang i think it was...and looking at the certifications there are two choices...but i dont understand the pros and cons to all this.

the exams i see are:

Red Hat System Administration I (RH124)

and

RHCT Red Hat Certified Technician (RH202)

whats the difference? they both seem like entry level certifications...does one have more clout than the other...or do they cover two totally different areas (though i couldnt imagine this)

any info appreciated...

well your info is out of date and RHCT no longer exists, it was replaced with the RHCSA certification a few years ago. the RH124 exam is a basic fundamentals exam (NOT a certification level), whilst RHSCA is based on the contents of that course AND RH135 combined. check redhat.com/training for information.

thanks for that...yes sometimes i dont check site dates...my mistake

so should i start with RH124...i mean is this the only place to start?

Also are the books mostly the same..or is there one that will guarantee me i have all the info to pass...

im just reading on the red hat web site...its pretty confusing as the one course says you need to have the other one first...how does this work..what is the most basic course i can do that has no prerequisites? should i just contact red hat?...looking at it again...the exam ex200 only shows itself as a prerequisite...so this is obviously the starting point

thinking about this book

got anything else in mind?

you don't need to do any of that if you don't want. my first commercial course was the RHCE fast track. If you *KNOW* stuff already, you don't need to pay to be taught it again.

Yes, buy that book. it's great.

Interesting.
According to the partner portal here, RHCT is still available and current in this neck of the woods.

The (RHCE) fast track may be a bit ahead of somebody studying at home on CentOS.
Or not p'raps ...
