can a corrupted windows 10 dvd+r be repaired or files be recovered?

I think I corrupted the "registry" of a dvd+r 4.7gb by forgetting to close the session. It never loads any of the data, just spins forever.

Files not replaceable. Appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Is this a copy of Windows 10 that you burned to a DVD from the original? If so, to my knowledge, this is illegal and offering assistance in this case would be against LQ's rules...

Here is the disc image for the latest Windows 10 supplied by Microsoft.

M$ have almost certainly encrypted it - otherwise everyone would be copying the DVD.

You could try mounting it as an ISO file and exploring the data with a file manager.
I don't think you will get anywhere though.

Have you considered installing Windows as a VM?
Microsoft supply limited time VM images for Virtual Box at https://developer.microsoft.com/en-u...vms/#downloads

BTW How can you corrupt a read-only DVD?

OP *might* have meant [something *like*] "directory"[?] on a data files DVD+R,
reading a burn session that was unfinalized/unclosed "just spins forever", [web-search this]
"not replaceable" meaning no other copies anywhere.

Maybe: cdrecord -fix /dev/sr0 [?]

p.s.: *I* need an XP .iso (I do have my own valid CoA ;)

You will almost certainly have to redownload and startv again from scratch. The .iso does not expose files and, even were it to, the Windows Registry is mostly something which can be manipulated using anything but a live Windows install.
Re-burn, re-tweak and re-install.

I think there is a gross misunderstanding here. This probably is a backup of something important. By "registry" our OP probably meant Volume Descriptor of ISO filesystem.

Perhaps but, regardless, a disk burned with a broken OS is a coaster.
More time should be taken calling M$ support and asking them the best way to do this.

I've never had any luck with a bad optical disc.
