Can't write to a mounted floppy in RedHat 5

I've been playing around with RedHat 5 installed on an old Dell Pentium 90.

I succeeded in mounting the floppy drive logged on as root, but when I'm logged in as a regular account the system won't let me create files on the floppy or write to them. (I can do both logged on as root.) Is there something I need to configure or change that will allow me to do this?

You need to change permissions ...
In /etc/fstab, consider adding "user" somewhere (on the line concerning your floppy drive, just after "default" is there is one) ... Reading "man fstab" might help ...

You should also change permissions on the directory you mount your floppy : chown a+rwx /mnt/floppy (if /mnt/floppy is the directory)

Repost if problem persist

Check your group memberships. Make sure you're in the "floppy" group and that the floppy is mounted with rwx access for that group. Or, of course, any group you wish to specify.

Check your /etc/auto.master and /etc/auto.misc to see how automount is handling your floppy drive, and verify that the user and group memberships are set as you wish.

I succeeded in changing the permissions for the floppy, so now I can write to as well as read from it. Adding "user" to the fstab file didn't seem to do anything.

The two "auto" files you mentioned don't seem to exist on my distro.
